Strengthening Collective Action: Xenowatch at CoRMSA’s Movement-Building Meeting
On 25 June 2025, Dr Jean-Pierre Misago from the African Centre for Migration & Society (ACMS) and Marlise Richter joined civil society leaders at the Consortium for Refugees and Migrants in South Africa (CoRMSA) Annual General Meeting and Movement Establishment Engagement in Johannesburg.
The meeting brought together migrant rights organisations, researchers, and activists to reflect on current migration trends, challenges, and strategies for building a stronger, coordinated movement in South Africa. Dr JP Misago and Marlise shared insights from the Xenowatch project, highlighting the role of data in documenting xenophobic violence and informing advocacy. Their contribution stressed the need for responsive, inclusive, and community-driven approaches in the fight against xenophobia and migrant exclusion.
The meeting reaffirmed the importance of collaboration and critical engagement in advancing the rights and dignity of all who call South Africa home.
