South-South Dialogue Conference on Access to Asylum

Our team recently engaged in pivotal discussions at the South-South Dialogue Conference on Access to Asylum, hosted by Consortium for Refugees and Migrants in South Africa (CoRMSA) & partners.

The event took place from 28 – 29 October 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa where the key insights from comparative research were:

While Uganda’s refugee-friendly policies foster integration, South Africa’s system is hampered by capacity constraints, corruption, and xenophobia within Home Affairs.

Our collective efforts must now focus on:
– Training border officials on asylum laws & visa processes.
– Launching awareness campaigns for asylum seekers at border points.
– Advocating to reduce processing delays.

Cross-border collaboration is essential to counter restrictive trends and uphold the rights of asylum seekers.
