Leihlo La Sechaba: Spaza trade wars, 08 July 2019

Tensions are simmering on the ground as local spaza shop owners and street hawkers fight for trading space and lower prices in the multi billion rand small business sector. In an effort to compete with their foreign counterparts, local investors Zande has come up with a plan to build goods warehouses for cheaper prices, offer credit to buy more stock including delivery of goods to affiliated spaza shop’s doorsteps to reduce transport costs. Already Zande is servicing 1400 spaza shops in Mpumalanga province and hope to reach 7 000 spaza shops in the next five years across the country.
